In a nail-biting finish, Bharti Vij Academy defeated Sector 37 Academy by 1 run in the final of U-13 Inter-Academy Cricket Tournament played for LIC Trophy in a match played at Govt. Model School Sector 26, Chandigarh, on Sunday.
Batting first, Bharti Vij Academy amassed a huge total of 212 runs at the loss of five wickets in 30 overs. Vij Academy openers Abhishek and Priankit could not contribute much and got out early. After that, Akshdeep Singh and Rizul added 48 runs for the third-wicket. Rizul carried on his fine form and scored a fine knock of 100 runs in 76 balls. His innings included 15 fours and one six. For Sector 37 Academy Tushar Mehta picked-up two wickets, while Kulbhushan took one wicket for 52.
Batting second, Sector 37 Academy fell short of just one run and were all out in the last over of the match scoring 211 runs. Arnav played a superlative knock of 56 runs in 55 balls, while Sayyim Sarin scored 48 runs. Sector 37 Academy needed seven runs off the last over. Vij Academy's Harish bowled the last over and getting a wicket on the second ball of the over. A small collapse followed as two batsmen got run out in the next two balls. Rizul and Divyanshu Sharma picked-up two wickets a piece.
Later, former Indian selector Bhupinder Singh and chairman of LIC Club gave away prizes to the winning team. Rizul (BVCA) was declared man of the series, while Abhishek (BVCA) was announced as best all-rounder. Harish (BVCA) was declared as best bowler, while Sayyim Sarin (37 Academy) was given a prize for being best batsman of the tournament.
