The West Indies reached the semi-finals of the ICC World Twenty20, owing to some good flashes of brilliance from its captain Chris Gayle and players such as Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan.
The next test for the Caribbean side will be taking on India at home. The Indian side maybe depleted of some of its experienced ODI candidates but West Indian coach, John Dyson, has said that his boys will be playing to win the four-match series.
Unlike India, West Indies is fielding a near-full strength squad with the exception of Fidel Edwards who is out owing to injury.
"The squad`s balanced fairly well," he said. "If you look at the possible side that could walk on the field, we`ve got an extra batsman, we have an all-rounder who is also a very good batsman, (we have) normal pace and reserve pace, which is good.”
He added that he hopes Chris Gayle will provide a back-up spin option to the team’s frontline spinner Sulieman Benn.
The Indian squad has a number of new candidates to replace the ones nursing injury or resting. Some of these names include Ashish Nehra – who is making his comeback to international cricket; third Test opener Murali Vijay; Subramaniam Badrinath; Dinesh Kathik and Abhishek Nayar.
Dyson said that the pitch conditions at the venue may also be a big contributing factor to decide the final result of the series.
"It depends on the sort of wickets we`re playing on, on the conditions of the day, and the form our own players are in, and the opposition players are in."
